The Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary’s Congregation was founded in
the year 1844 in Pondicherry. The very inception of this congregation was aimed at liberating
the illiterate womenfolk from various types of atrocities and social injustices. The sisters of this
congregation are deeply committed to the motto of the congregation. “Sanctification of sisters
for the Sanctification of Women”. Though the congregation runs a large number of educational
institutions, health and social work organizations in various parts of India and abroad, education
has been their strongest weapon to achieve the above said motto.
In the field of education the congregation has got Higher Secondary Schools, High Schools, the
congregation has been running Technical Training Institution, Teacher Training Institutions,
Community Colleges, Engineering Colleges and Arts and Science Colleges. The Prime objective
of starting this institution is to provide opportunities for women towards their social and
economic self-reliance and thereby improving their status in the society.

The prime objective is to sensitize the role and responsibilities of prospective women teachers by inculcating the culture of professional development through providing wide range of opportunities and scope for teaching and learning in terms of individual and peer form.
The objective is to instill the required knowledge, teaching skills and attitude among rural women in order to face varied challenges prevailed in the society and ensure placement. It is to render selfless service through fostering faith formation and humanitarian values that enlightens the fellow human being and empower women teachers to be the agent of social transformation in the vision of Rev.
